TAKING TEA

TAKING TEA IN MANY COUNTRIES

Beginning with Japan, China, India and to Turkey, Egypt, then to Great Britain, and finally to the United States, taking tea is accompanied by different tea items.

The vessels, teas, and customs vary worldwide. When my mother traveled to the Mid-east, there were portable tea and mint makers that the people carried around.

Tea customs in Japan are vastly different from the customs in Great Britain. Then there are the varieties of teas themselves. Of what Iíve read and heard, these all involve hot tea.

I donít believe that the iced tea drinks are more popular, though, in any county than here in the United States.

ENGLISH TEA TIME

Reading about the English tea times, I found that this is usually regarding HIGH TEA. There are various customs and rituals for High Tea.

The approximate time is 4:00 PM and it is served with scones and cream or various other cakes.

Supper is held much later than our American dinner of about 5:00 PM and generally this is 7:00-8:00 pm in Great Britain. There were various times and details in the many articles which Iíve read but one thread runs through them all:

High Tea† is in the afternoon and Supper is much later than this.
